Misinformation

We all will be voting soon and the misinformation is rampant.  It’s  not true that there is a migrant crime wave in fact crime rates are down and  statistics show that immigrants commit crime at a lesser rate than us citizens.   Haitian workers  are not eating people’s pets in Springfield Ohio.   It’s also not true that illegal immigrants are voting and could change the outcome of the election. Data shows noncitizen voting is virtually nonexistent (USA Today )  and yet Wisconsin is putting an amendment on the Nov 5  ballot to prevent illegals from voting??  Misinformation that pits one group against another does not promote freedom, I believe it could promote a form of authoritarianism and ultimately even Fascism.

I’m thankful for our two local papers, one a bit more conservative and one a bit more liberal.  States need help to handle the many migrants, not because the migrants are criminals but because there are so many of them due to wars and yes climate change which is not a hoax.  If the bipartisan immigration bill had been passed, we would have more people policing the border and less fentanyl coming into the country.  As little children we learned that lying is just wrong and it still is.

“Man’s capacity for justice makes democracy possible, but man’s inclination to injustice makes  Democracy necessary.”    Karl Paul Reinhold  Niebuhr NYC theologian  and recipient of the medal of freedom in 1964.  Please vote on Nov 5th.
